Originally the Empire Brewing Company in 1848 and later the Pabst Brewing Company in 1889, the brewery operated for over 150 years until Pabst headquarters left Milwaukee in 1996, leading to its closure.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, the building was transformed into the Brewhouse Inn & Suites by Gorman & Company in 2011. Opened in 2013, the hotel's notable features include six massive copper brewing kettles and a stained-glass window depicting King Gambrinus, the patron saint of beer. .
